Hollywood Music Promoter Robert Ross Links Shaquille O’Neal Sex Tape to Kidnapping

A Hollywood music promoter who was kidnapped, beaten and robbed at gunpoint testified in a Los Angeles court yesterday that his abductors demanded he hand over a sex tape “starring” freshly-retired NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal.

According to the Los Angeles Times and Reuters, promoter Robert Ross testified at a preliminary hearing that he discussed the tape with O’Neal during a business dispute just two weeks prior to his abduction.

Ross was kidnapped in a brazen attack on the night of the 2008 Grammy Awards as he drove his Bentley on the Sunset Strip. His abductors were allegedly members of the Main Street Mafia Crips gang, which Ross said he once belonged to as well. The kidnappers allegedly forced Ross to drive to the home of defendant Ladell Rowles, the leader of the gang, where he was beaten and robbed of a Rolex watch, diamond jewelry and $15,000 in cash.

“What the victim testified to is that while he was being beaten they asked for the tape back,” Jane Robinson of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office told Reuters.

The tape, which prosecutors say they have no evidence of, allegedly shows O’Neal having sex with multiple women.

Ross’ seven alleged assailants face charges of kidnapping, robbery, assault with a firearm and conspiracy. Prosecutors stress that O’Neal is not involved in the case.

The 39-year-old O’Neal just retired earlier this month from an illustrious NBA career after 19 seasons. He was a center for the Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics. He won three consecutive NBA championships with the Lakers from 2000-2002 and another with the Heat in 2006.
