Sarah Palin Badly Bungles Story of Paul Revere’s Ride in Boston

Sarah Palin, the Alaska governor- turned vice presidential candidate- turned reality TV star- turned possible 2012 Republican presidential candidate (shudder), was in Boston yesterday keeping up appearances in case she decides to jump into the GOP nomination race.

Palin has been traveling across the America on her ‘One Nation’ bus tour, stopping to visit historical sites like the Liberty Bell and the Statue of Liberty along the way.

In Boston, the fundamentalist Palin displayed a fundamental dearth of historical knowledge when she stumbled through an erroneous retelling of the story of Paul Revere’s 1775 midnight ride from Boston to Lexington to warn patriots of the impending arrival of British troops.

Said Palin:

“… [Revere] warned the British that they weren’t gonna be takin’ away our arms, uh, by ringin’ those bells and, um, makin’ sure as he’s ridin’ his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that were gonna be secure and we were gonna be free. And we were gonna be armed.”

Would that Sarah Palin were armed with more knowledge. There was no firing of shots or ringing of bells whatsoever on Revere’s midnight ride, and he certainly did not warn the British of anything at all. Here she is, in all her folksy glory, painfully slogging through her parallel universe of American history:
