Republican Rep. Joe Walsh: “White Guilt” the Only Reason Obama was Elected

US Rep. Joe Walsh, a Republican and TeaParty favorite from Illinois, has raised eyebrows by claiming that “white guilt” is the only reason why Barack Obama was elected president.

In an interview with Slate’s Dave Weigel, Walsh responded to a question about Obamas’ electoral successes:

“Why was he elected? Again, it comes back to who he was. He was black, he was historic. And there’s nothing racist about this. It is what it is. If he had been a dynamic, white, state senator elected to Congress he wouldn’t have gotten in the game this fast. This is what made him different… [Voters] were in love with him because they thought he was a good liberal guy and they were in love with him because he pushed that magical button: a black man who was articulate, liberal, the whole white guilt, all of that.”

Walsh, the Chairman of the House Small Business Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax & Capital Access, also predicted that “white guilt” will lead to Obama’s re-election next year. “I pity the candidate running against him, because it will continue,” he said. “That profession will protect him, and they will crucify whoever the Republican nominee is.”

Much of the Slate article focuses on Walsh’s status as “the biggest media hound in the freshman class,” and we admit we’re not helping matters much by posting this story.

In addition to being a media whore, Walsh is one of Congress’ top Obama-bashers. For example, despite the fact that the Obama administration has declared an unbreakable bond with Israel and continues to gift billions upon billions of dollars of military aid to the Jewish state, money that is used to commit horrific human rights violations, Walsh still wrote a post for the conservative Daily Caller titled “President Obama is not Israel’s Friend.”

Perhaps I should re-title this post “Joe Walsh is not Truth’s Friend.”
