Video: D.C. Transit Cops Slam Wheelchair-Bound Man Face-Down into Sidewalk

May 24, 2011 by Brett Wilkins in Police Brutality with 1 Comment

A video of a wheelchair-bound man being picked up and tackled to the pavement has gone viral.

According to the New York Daily News, the unidentified man was seen drinking alcohol near the U Street Metrorail station. Metro Transit police say he refused to leave when they issued him a citation and when they informed him that he was under arrest he resisted.

While the video does not show the events leading up to the man’s “fall,” what it does show is a pair of officers hoisting him up out of his wheelchair and then slamming him face-down onto the sidewalk where they then proceed to handcuff him.

The man then appears to be bleeding.

DC Metro Transit police say they are now “following up” on the incident.
