Dueling Slavic Cannibals: Moscow Police Interrupt Man Eating Human Liver Stew; Slovak Maneater Wounded in Gunfight with Cops
It’s been a bad week for cannibals in Eastern Europe.
In Russia, random human body parts have been turning up around the Dorogomilovo area of Moscow for the past two weeks. According to KTLA, a decapitated head was found in the Moskva River and an arm was discovered in Tsaritsino Park. Two feet, a hand and yet another arm were later found.
Working with this literal body of evidence, some intrepid police work led to the home of Nikolai Shadrin, a man with a history of mental illness who’s done time in a psychiatric asylum. According to the Guardian, when Moscow police entered Shadrin’s home, they caught him in the middle of dinner. “He was eating a human liver with potatoes,” said a police spokeswoman. The rest of the liver was found in the refrigerator. Apparently it came from a man he knew from his asylum days named Ilya Yegorov. Shadrin “admitted he had eaten part of his acquaintance’s liver,” the prosecutor general’s office said.
Meanwhile, 43-year-old Slovakian Matej Curko was critically wounded in a gunfight with undercover police who were following up on a tip from a Swiss man who told them he agreed to kill himself and be eaten by the suspect. The would-be dinner changed his mind, but Slovak investigators learned that the suspect trolled the internet for people who wanted to commit suicide and then be eaten.
After the shootout, information from the suspect’s computer led officers to a shallow grave in the woods near Kysak that contained the remains of two women, cut into pieces.
