Brazilian Woman Legally Entitled to Watch Porn & Masturbate at Work

A Brazilian judge has ruled that a woman who suffers from an unusual chemical imbalance that triggers severe anxiety and hypersexuality may legally masturbate at work and watch pornography on her office computer. According to AOL, Ana Catarina Bezerra Silvares, a 36-year-old accountant from Vila Velha in the state of Espírito Santo, was having trouble concentrating on her work because of the constant need to masturbate in order to relieve her intense anxiety.

“It got so bad I would masturbate up to 47 times a day,” she said. “That’s when I asked for help, I knew it wasn’t normal.”

Now Bezerra can legally pleasure herself whenever she feels the need for release. That should help, as will an array of medications that have reportedly reduced her need to masturbate to a more manageable 18 times a day.

“This case is interesting because it shows the difference between Brazilian culture and the US,” Dr. Carol Queen, the resident sexologist for Good Vibrations, a San Francisco-based sex shop that caters primarily to women, told AOL. “It’s unlikely a workplace here would allow her the time to do that, even though practically everyone who has masturbated knows that it relieves tension.”

It just so happens to be “National Masturbation Month” in the US, an event Dr. Queen helped launch back in 1995. “We started it to honor then- Surgeon General Dr. Jocelyn Elders, who was forced to resign after she made some sensible comments that perhaps teens should be taught about masturbation in sex ed classes,” she told AOL. Now she says “National Masturbation Month” is observed throughout the world.

Virginia Keeney, an attorney, told AOL that a decision like the one in Brazil probably wouldn’t occur here, despite workplace laws that protect people with disabilities by accommodating their special needs. “There have been cases where employees have been allowed multiple rest periods or bathroom breaks,” she said. “In theory, I suppose a case could be made to allow [Bezerra] to go to the bathroom as well without stating exactly why. However, my issue is that her needs could be difficult to accommodate.”
