‘Douche du Jour’: Staunch Anti-Porn Indonesian Lawmaker Caught Watching Sex Videos During Parliamentary Debate

An Indonesian member of parliament who was instrumental in passing strict anti-pornography laws used to imprison others has resigned after being caught watching porno videos during a parliamentary debate, the Belfast Telegraph reports.

Arifinto (many Indonesians use only one name) was a member of the conservative Islamic Prosperous Justice Party. He oversaw a commission dealing with transportation, telecommunications and rural development and was a vocal supporter of the country’s tough anti-pornography law. The controversial legislation prescribes fines and prison terms of up to 15 years for a wide range of “crimes,” including public displays of affection, exposure of a woman’s “sensual” body parts, displaying “erotic” artwork, and broadcasting, possessing or storing pornography.

Indonesia, with 237,000,000 people, is the world’s most populous Muslim country. While one of the most moderate Islamic societies on the planet, a small but vocal conservative and fundamentalist fringe has been gaining power as of late, pushing their strict moral agenda on the entire nation. The anti-pornography law is but one manifestation of their increasing clout.

The anti-porn law was used to bust Nazril “Ariel” Irham, lead singer of the country’s most popular band, Peterpan. Irham’s home-made sex tapes landed him a 40 month jail sentence. The editor-in-chief of Playboy Indonesia was also sentenced to two years behind bars under the law championed by Arifinto.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, Arifinto was caught watching pornographic videos for several minutes while lawmakers debated plans to build a new parliamentary building.

For his hypocrisy– which has cost other Indonesians their liberty, Arifinto is our Daily Douche.

I’m sure he was only watching the tapes to “review” if they were porn or not. Plus he has a wide stance.
