Update: Tsunami Dog who Survived 3 Weeks at Sea Reunited with Overjoyed Owner
On Saturday, we brought you the amazing tale of a dog in Japan that survived three weeks at sea on the floating roof of a house destroyed by the devastating March 11 tsunami. Well, this story gets even better. The unidentified dog is unidentified no longer; 2-year-old Ban and her owner, who did not want to be identified herself, were joyfully reunited today in Tomiya, Miyagi prefecture.
According to USA and the New York Post, the woman, who is in her 50s, saw a TV news report about the harrowing rescue. “I recognized her immediately after seeing her face,” she said as she hugged her beloved Ban. “I am happy that she seems healthy. I want to cherish her when I take her back… We’ll never let go of her.”
Ban was rescued Friday by Japan’s Coast Guard, which spotted her floating on a rooftop more than a mile from the coast of Miyagi.
