The Mississippi Dog Shit Shootout
An argument between two neighbors over one of their dogs and its habit of defecating on the others’ lawn led to a shootout in Mississippi on Wednesday.
According to the Associated Press, 52-year-old Terry Tehnet was incensed with his neighbor, 60-year-old Jerry Blasingame, because he believed Blasingame’s dog had been pooping on his lawn. Tehnet said he visited his neighbor to complain about his dog, and Blasingame accused him of shooting the animal the week before.
Tehnet denied this. “I said ‘Jerry, your dog ain’t even dead.’ He said ‘Just meet me at the levee and I’ll shoot you down.'”
Blasingame grabbed his shotgun and left his house, hoping his neighbor would follow him in order to avoid being seen by bystanders.
From that point, the two mens’ stories differ.
Blasingame claims Tehnet was armed and tried to provoke him into pointing his gun at him. He says Tehnet shot at him first and he returned fire with his shotgun.
Tehnet says he was unarmed and had to scramble for his pistol after Blasingame shot at him. Tehnet dropped his gun after being struck in both hands with shotgun pellets.
Blasingame was charged with aggravated assault. Charges are also possible for Tehnet.
