‘Douche du Jour’: Iowa Youth Pastor “Purified” Gay Teens With Sex
A former Iowa youth pastor stands accused of sexually abusing teenagers and telling them that the purpose of the abuse was to help them achieve “sexual purity in the eyes of god.”
According to the Council Bluffs Daily Nonpareil, Brent Girouex, who is 31 and married with children, confessed to police last month that he had sexual relations with four young men during his tenure as youth pastor at Victory Fellowship Church. Since then, eight more people have come forward to report alleged abuse. Girouex was arrested; he faces 60 counts of suspicion of sexual exploitation by a counselor or therapist.
According to court documents, Girouex’s youngest victim was 14 years old when the abuse began. The teen, who is now an adult, told investigators that he had “mutual sexual contact” with Giroux between 50 and 100 times. The pastor allegedly told the teen that it was his duty “to help [him] with homosexual urges by praying while he had sexual contact with him.” Girouex allegedly told detectives that “when [the boys] would ejaculate, they would be getting rid of the evil thoughts in their mind.”
At least three other teens were allegedly sexually exploited at Girouex’s home. But with more alleged victims coming forward, the number is likely to grow. The former pastor, for his part, says the abuse was only about “helping the victims gain sexual purity.”
Girouex has been released on a $30,000 bond. He is due in court on April 21.
