Fashion Icon John Galliano: “I Love Hitler”
Four days ago, we named international fashion design icon John Galliano, formerly of Dior (more on that in a moment), our ‘Douche du Jour’ for his anti-Semitic rant in a Parisian bar. Galliano was arrested and suspended from his job over the tirade, and today comes news that he’s been sacked from his post as creative director at Christian Dior.
Now comes a gem of a cell phone video shot at La Perle, the same bar where Friday’s incident occurred, of a visibly intoxicated Galliano stating “I love Hitler.” Speaking to a group seated at a table with him, he tells them: “People like you would be dead. Your mothers, your forefathers, would all be fucking gassed.”
Galliano’s star is plunging faster than last autumn’s hemlines. Natalie Portman, who took Best Actress honors at Sunday’s Oscars for her role in Black Swan, said she was “shocked and disgusted” by the designer’s anti-Semitic rant. “As an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way,” she stated. Portman is the spokesmodel for Cherie Dior perfume, but now that Galliano has been booted from the prestigious fashion house she shouldn’t have any ethical conflicts working with Christian Dior.
