‘Douches du Jour’: Conservative Douchebags Blame Lara Logan & Islam for her Brutal Sexual Assault
Have they no shame? The brutal beating and sexual assault of CBS reporter Lara Logan in Cairo, Egypt was an appalling act of monstrous barbarism. It was an opportunistic crime committed by heartless thugs against a consummate professional, a veteran war correspondent who, while understanding the risks inherent in such work and taking what precautions she could, fell victim to the more sinister side of the human animal that frantic day in Cairo. Logan deserves nothing but our unequivocal sympathy and support, just as her vicious attackers deserve nothing but our utter contempt. They and no one else– not the Egyptian people, not the Muslim religion– are responsible for this atrocity. And Logan is nothing more than a victim, plain and simple. She was not a provocateur, she was not lost in a fog of politically correct naïveté.
These things should go without saying. But unfortunately, there are those on the reactionary right who must be called out for their appalling insensitivity, disgusting suggestions and blatant Islamophobic racism. Thanks to watchdog groups like Media Matters for America, tracking these vile creatures has gotten a lot easier. Just get a load of what these douchebags have said about Logan’s devastating ordeal:
Jim Hoft of RightNetwork’s Gateway Pundit, blamed Logan and her “liberal belief system” for her assault. Here are excerpts from his blog post titled “After Sexual Assault & Beating… CBS Reporter Logan Learns That Political Correctness Is a Killer”:
“Lara Logan is lucky she’s alive.
Her liberal belief system almost got her killed on Friday. This talented reporter will never be the same.
Why did this attractive blonde female reporter wander into Tahrir Square last Friday? Why would she think this was a good idea? Did she not see the violence in the square the last three weeks? Did she not see the rock throwing? Did she miss the camels? Did her colleagues tell her about the Western journalists who were viciously assaulted on the Square? Did she forget about the taunts from the Egyptian thugs the day before? What was she thinking? Was it her political correctness that about got her killed? Did she think things would be different for her?”
Not to be outdone, Debbie Schlussel, a “D-List Ann Coulter wannabe” and rabidly anti-Islamic blogger, published a post titled “How Muslims Celebrate Victory: Egypt’s ‘Peaceful, Moderate, Democratic Protesters'” in which she called Egypt a “country of savages” and “animals.” Schlussel also blamed Logan for her attack, since “she should have known what Islam is all about”:
“So sad, too bad, Lara. No one told her to go there. She knew the risks. And she should have known what Islam is all about. Now she knows… How fitting that Lara Logan was ‘liberated’ by Muslims in Liberation Square while she was gushing over the other part of the ‘liberation.'”
LA Weekly blogger Simone Wilson got in on the act, too, mentioning Logan’s “shocking good looks and ballsy knack for pushing her way to the heart of the action” (as if she’s to blame for her own assault because she’s a determined “firecracker” of a reporter) before discussing the actual attack. Wilson continues: “In a rush of frenzied excitement, some Egyptian protestors apparently consummated their newfound independence by sexually assaulting the blonde reporter.” Sure, that’s how Egyptians consummate any joyous occasion, by raping blonde chicks.
And finally, there’s Nir Rosen, a fellow (he has now resigned) at the New York University Center for Law and Security who tweeted that “It’s always wrong, that’s obvious, but I’m rolling my eyes at all the attention she’ll get… She’s so bad that I ran out of sympathy for her.” Realizing the implications of what he’d said, if not feeling actual remorse, Rosen then deleted the most offensive tweets and wrote: “I apologize and take it back. Joking with friends got out of line when I didn’t want to back down. Forgot twitter is not exactly private.”
What kind of man would joke with friends about a brutal beating and sexual assault?
The kind who’s our Daily Douche.
