Republican Congressman Wants Wikileaks Designated ‘Foreign Terrorist Organization’
Rep. Peter King (R-NY) has asked US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and US Attorney General Eric Holder to designate the whistelblower website Wikileaks a ‘foreign terrorist organization’ and the site’s founder, Julian Assange, a ‘terrorist ringleader.’
King called Wikileakers a “clear and present enemy to the United States of America” and asserted they’re “assisting in terrorist activity.” Not only does King want to go after Wikileaks, he also wants to punish “anyone who provides them with any help or contributions or assistance whatsoever.”
Moral Low Ground strongly supports Wikileaks’ actions, believing that “sunlight is the best disinfectant.” We suspect that Wikileaks, like MLG, ultimately hopes that the leaked information leads to a better-informed citizenry who will in turn demand an end to these awful wars being waged by our government in our name, much like the release of the Pentagon Papers by Daniel Ellsberg helped build opposition to the war in Indochina four decades ago. Ellsberg, by the way, supports Wikileaks as well.
Any move to punish or persecute Wikileaks will surely be met with a storm of indignation from First Amendment advocates of all stripes, and Moral Low Ground pledges to stand firmly beside the brave men and women of Wikileaks who have done so much to enlighten the world to the brutal realities of American imperialism.
